Data retrieval?

I enjoy compaq presario and the hard drive appears to be comatose. It just make a clicking noise when I try to turn it on. I call a laptop repair place that said for about 100 dollars they could see what they can retrieve sour of it. I am curious if anyone has done this up to that time and if it it worth it? I have abundantly of documents, old emails, photos etc that I would love to hold back but don't want to spend foolishly the money if it is not worth it. Thanks for your help.

Answer:

They might be capable of recover them for you. You may want those memories sometime down the road.
I a short time ago had a problem near being stuck contained by safe start mode. I go to the Geek Squad and they removed everything and put it on disks for 99. It came out great and they enjoy startup disks and removal should be done before trying to fix it. Hope this help!
Only you can decide what your facts is worth, but if you decide to try it it will any work or it won't - at that price.

If you really want your data fund a firm such as Ontrack can get it for you but it will be greatly more thatn 100 bucks.

Good luck. - by the way, you can seize a laptop to desktop hard drive adapter for give or take a few 10 dollars and can view the drive contents yourself from you desktop. Just install it on the other IDE depression - there are usually 2 contained by your desktop and boot up. If there is another device on this IDE trough you will have to set the jumper to slave on the small hard drive. Anyway - it'ss not to intricate and you won't hurt anything trying
